Performance and glass
Technical details
There are several choices of glass to suit therequired comfort level and energy requirements– profiles that accept triple-glazed units naturally allow the widest choice. Different types of glass are available to meet requirements such as burglar resistance, fire protection, sound reduction, dirt repellence, solar shading and energy saving. It is also possible to screen-print the glass with different patterns, or to use coloured glass.
Important points to consider
Glass surfaces that are unprotected and placed where people can come in contact with them, must be designed to limit the risk of personal injury. Glass surfaces of this type must be dimensioned to withstand the impact of aperson. Applicable standards and requirements must be taken into account.

Our profiles can be anodised in eight standard colours or powder-coated according to NCS-S and RAL colour charts. You can also choose different colours on the inside and outside. Sapa offers the widest range of surface finishes in Scandinavia. Our aluminium profiles for facades, windows and doors a can be anodised or painted.
There is a wide choice of colours for anodising and an almost unlimited choice for painting. The appearance and surface quality of extruded aluminium profiles is perfectly satisfactory for many applications without any surface finish.
Anodising
Anodising is the strongest surface finish available for aluminium profiles. This is an electrolytic process that builds up the surface oxide layer. This layer strengthens the surface and makes it resistant to mechanical wear, UV light and harsh environments. Anodising gives lasting colour and sheen, with an oxide layer that is 20 microns thick for outdoor use. (Layer thickness class AA20).
• preparation
• anodising itself
• colouring (where required)
• sealing.
Painting
Powder coating is clearly the painting method of choice today and offers an almost unlimited choice of colours from the RAL and NCS-S colour scales. Powder coating is carried out using polyester powder, to a layer thickness of around 60 microns.
Paint colour range. Sapa works with many popular paint types: textured, metallic and clear coatings, in addition to the standard powder coating. Polyester powder is used for powder coating. There are effectively no limits on colour choice for painting. We can offer all the colours covered by the NCS-S and RAL colour scales.

The U-value varies depending on the choice of glass and dimensions of the product. Low U-value = better insulation, allows less energy to escape.
* Our calculations are based on glazing units with energy-saving glass:double-glazed Ug = 0.9 W/m²K and triple-glazed Ug = 0.7 W/m²K, for maximum dimensions of the entire product, unless specified otherwise.Value for Folding French Window 1086 is based on triple-glazed specification;Window 1086 SX and Avantis are based on standard dimensions of 1430 x 1280 mm. Our window systems also include French doors. Burglar-resistant versions have glazing, locks and fittings that meet the relevant class. It is important to decide on your performance needs at an early stage.
